Apple AirTags features have been hiding in apparently sight -- here'south why
There'due south been a lot of speculation almost AirTags, Apple tree's upcoming tracking device that will let you lot hunt downward your lost stuff. Nosotros've seen lots of evidence they're coming but information technology seems AirTags may take been hiding in plain site this whole time.
MacRumors reader David Chu discovered that there's a hidden "Items" tab in Apple tree'due south Notice My app, which can be enabled in the Safari browser. Further proof that AirTags must be about ready to go.
- Everything we know almost Apple'south AirTags
- These are the best key finders you can buy right now
- Plus: Apple AirTags features have been hiding in evidently sight -- hither's why
Typing findmy://items into Safari volition take yous to this subconscious UI in Discover My! moving picture.twitter.com/CakKBGEuNhJanuary 13, 2021
The tab tin can be enabled by typing "findmy://items" into Safari on whatever devices running iOS 14.3, iPadOS 14.iii, or later. Once done, a prompt volition announced directing you to a hidden tab inside the existing Find my app. Mac users can do the same with their version of the app, provided they're running macOS 11.1 or afterward.
Apple developers can besides access the tab by heading into Settings > Programmer > Display Items tab. Again you need to run iOS 14.three or after for it to exist visible.
Despite many rumors and loads of speculation, Apple still hasn't officially revealed anything about AirTags. Of grade the leaked data has already told the states that they'll apply ultra-wideband signals to communicate with your iPhone, rather than Bluetooth, which offers more than range and more authentic location information.
AirTags themselves seem to come in a modest, rounded design, similar to the Tile sticker. From the looks of the images they will be stuck onto whatever object you want to track, though you could merely as easily stick it inside. The AirTags themselves don't have any sort of hole to clip them onto your keys, though patent images advise there will exist accessories y'all tin can buy to brand that possible.
Of course the "Items" tab isn't but for AirTags. While integration with Apple tree's trackers is going to be a large part of the Notice My app's hereafter, Apple tree also announced that tertiary party products would exist supported dorsum at WWC 2020. And earlier this calendar week nosotros saw the Belkin Soundform Earbuds that makes good on that promise, and includes Find My app support.
Those are due to launch in the jump, and gives u.s.a. a crude thought of when the new Items tab should be open for business.
As for the AirTags themselves, there are no clues on when Apple volition release them upon the globe. Nosotros've known they exist since last April, when Apple accidentally referenced them in a video, though every Apple tree event that happened since then has been suspiciously AirTag complimentary. So we don't know when they're going to arrive.
The next Apple tree launch we know about involves the next wave of iPad Pros, and that's supposed to be happening in March. AirTags could arrive so, which would tie in nicely with the Belkin Soundform launch window and the (presumed) expansion of the Detect My app. Or that might be wishful thinking, it's difficult to tell with Apple.
We'll bring you lot more on the AirTags every bit nosotros hear it.
